Three ways to reduce your plastic usage!

Plastic, and the amount we use, has hit the headlines over the last few weeks. With so much going to landfill due to plastic either not being able to be recycled or people choosing not to, we are reaching a plastic crisis!  The supermarkets have been called on to reduce their plastic packaging, but what can we do as individuals to help in the fight against plastic?

Here at Good Taste, we’re passionate about helping our customers to make ethical buying choices so we’ve thought of three simple swaps you can make to reduce your personal plastic usage:

  1. Disposable coffee cups are one of the items which have been in the spotlight due to their inability to be recycled. If you haven’t already invested in a reusable coffee cup you could try one of our e-coffee cups.  Made from organic bamboo fibre, these cups can be reused over and over again and when they do come to the end of their life they are fully biodegradable.  They are dishwasher safe and come with a non-drip lid so you can safely enjoy your coffee on the go or around small children.  As well as being beautiful to look at, they are naturally sterile and have no taste residue so you can switch up your drinks from day to day and not have coffee flavoured tea!
  2. I recently found out that every plastic toothbrush that has ever been made is still in existence, I couldn’t believe it! We’ve recently started stocking fully biodegradable toothbrushes made from panda-friendly bamboo. Bamboo is environmentally sustainable – it takes about 3-5 years to grow and regenerates itself without pesticides and with minimal rain. The bristles are BPA free and can be recycled, the handle can be put straight into your compost bin. Why not buy them for your whole family and decorate the handles with sharpies so you know whose is whose? A little change for you and a big impact for our planet.
  3. The 5p plastic bag charge, has without doubt helped to change people’ s attitude to their plastic bag usage, and wastage, however over 2 billion plastic shopping bags were still sold last year in England – that’s a lot of plastic! We have lots of reusable shopping bags for sale which are not made of plastic so the only thing you need to worry about is which one you like!

We will keep looking out for more ethical shopping ideas for you to try , but please do get in touch if you have any top tips to share!
