The temperature is dropping at the same time as we are consciously turning our heating down… so how to keep warm? We are experts at keeping warm here at Good Taste, our heater doesn’t really work and we have had two winters of keeping the shop door open all day, every day!
We thought we would share our tips with you on how to stay warm, without boosting the thermostat or having to wear your coat in the house!
Layers!
Now is the time to invest in some base layers! Never without a thermal, long sleeved vest Jenny is the layering queen who believes that several thin layers of clothing will keep you much warmer than one thicker layer. Don’t forget your bottom half either, Lucy wears a pair of Thought bamboo leggings or tights under her trousers on particularly cold days.
Hot drinks!
Sip hot drinks throughout the day. A hot drink will keep you warm from the inside out, if you want to limit your caffeine intake we have a great selection of caffeine-free options to choose from. If herbal teas aren’t your thing the Traidcraft decaffeinated breakfast blend tastes EXACTLY the same as the standard one – we bet you won’t be able to tell the difference!
Wooly Socks!
Pop a pair of thick wool socks on to keep your feet warm when you’re at home. The lovely socks from Paper High are crafted from 100% wool, the chunky knit makes them comfortable and cosy for the toastiest of toes. Ideal for lounging around the house on cold nights or lining your wellies for chilly winter walks. Available in various sizes and colours!
Blanket Shawls!
The blanket shawl from Black Yak is an absolute must have! A big, warm scarf which can be wrapped around you or popped over your knees. Because it is lighter than a throw, you wont look or feel like you are wearing a blanket in the house – always a bonus!
Wrist-warmers!
We sell a huge number of wrist-warmers during the winter, as they keep your hands warm whilst leaving your fingers free to write or use your laptop or phone. We have a great selection of colours and styles which are suitable for men and women.
Hot Water Bottles!
When it’s really cold in the shop, Lucy has been known to pop a hot water bottle up her jumper! We have a couple of new styles just arrived from Pachamama Knitwear, which are both pretty and practical!
We hope we’ve given you a bit of inspiration. We know how worried people are about being cold this winter. We can all hopefully take some steps to reduce the amount of energy we use, not just for our bank balance but for our beautiful world too.
There are plenty of throws, hats, gloves and scarves currently in stock so do pop in or take a look at our webshop to see what we have to offer.
