Ey Up Richard

No doubt if you have paid a visit to the shop you have met our lovely apprentice Richard! We thought we’d help you to get to know him a little better by asking him a few questions…

How did you start working at Good Taste?

I’ve known Jenny and Rob most of my life, so when I heard that they were launching a fair trade shop and were looking for volunteers, I took the opportunity. It was a chance for self improvement, learning new skills and meeting new people, but also to make a difference to the lives of artisans across the world by supporting fair trade.

I started volunteering way back in March 2015, the day before the shop opened. It’s been an amazing journey to see how the shop as grown and developed in that relatively short space of time. After 6 months of volunteering, Jenny offered me the chance to work here as an apprentice, studying social media for business. I’ve continued on as an apprentice, this time studying Digital Marketing.

What is your favourite product?

There are so many products in the shop which I love because of how unusual they are. A great example of this the key bowl from Traidcraft or the coconut bowl. All of the products have a story behind them, how they were made and who made them – and how it directly helps the artisans to improve their quality of life. The Dalit candles represent this perfectly. Handmade in India supporting the Dalit people – when in doubt, they’re my go to gift.

What is your role at Good Taste?

My current role is Digital Marketing Manager (grandiose title – I know). Basically I manage all of the online side of the business, from the website to the social media channels. This includes creating content and generally trying to increase our presence and that of fair trade online.

What is your favourite chocolate bar?

Lime and Seasalt by Choc Affair – Yum Yum

What is your favourite colour?

Blue

What do you do in your spare time?

Read, drink tea and binge watch Netflix series – recently I watched Fargo and rewatched Prison Break. And I’m about to take up running to be more active!
