We are have been delighted to welcome Juliet into the Good Taste Team, you may even have had the pleasure of meeting her when you come in for your Fairtrade essentials! We wanted to get to know her a bit better, so asked her a few questions about her life in and out of the shop.
How did you get involved with helping at Good Taste?
Since coming to Sheffield as a student in 2018, I’ve enjoyed popping into Good Taste to buy cards, gifts and groceries. In previous years, I’ve returned home or travelled over the summer, but this year I decided to stay in Sheffield. Keen to use the time away from my studies to build connections with the local community, I got in touch with Jenny and the team at Good Taste. I began working in the shop over the summer and enjoy it so much that I’ll be continuing to do so alongside completing my final year.
Why do you think Fairtrade is important?
I think it’s really important to consider the impact of the products we buy. I love purchasing Fairtrade goods as I know that neither people nor the planet were exploited during their production.
What is your favourite Fairtrade product?
My favourite Fairtrade product is Za’atar, a Middle Eastern spice mix. I enjoy making my own falafel and find that stirring through a teaspoon of Za’atar really adds to the flavour! At Good Taste we sell Za’atar from Zaytoun, a company supporting Palestinian farmers.
What do you do when you are not in the shop?
I’m a Plant Sciences student and so spend much of my time in the lab, watching lectures or writing essays. I also coach trampolining at the weekends which I absolutely love!
What do you like most about living in Sheffield?
I love the fact that there are so many great parks in Sheffield- my favourites are the Botanical Gardens and Bole Hills. I’m also a big coffee drinker and so enjoy visiting the independent coffee shops in Broomhill and Crookes and on Ecclesall Road.
What do you like doing in your spare time?
I really enjoy watching sports (usually football), going for walks in the Peak District, reading, running and cooking.
